Son of Ethel Groves and Bartholemew Abels who relocated his family from the midwest to Greensboro in the 1920s. Lucas entered the U.S. Army at Ft. Bragg on 30 Mar 1942 and faithfully served his country. He married Nell Davis and they had two known children.
