Richard was born Sept. 27, 1939, in North Bend, Neb., to Roy and Thelma (Lingel) Adams. He passed away suddenly Oct. 18, 2010, in Tillamook at age 71.
As a young child, Richard's family moved from the Hubbard area and settled in Tillamook, where he graduated from Tillamook High School. He married Wanda Jean Hamblin on April 24, 1962, in Tillamook.
He worked for the Tillamook County Road Department for eight years and then as a Tillamook city firefighter and fire marshal for the next eight years. He was a lifelong member of the Tillamook Fire Department. Richard then worked for the Tillamook Water Commission for 20 years, retiring in 1999.
Richard enjoyed reading, working on the computer and electronics.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Adams of Tillamook; children Kolleen K. Adams-Berrest and husband Mark Berrest of Gresham, Ruth A. Ellerbroek and husband Mike of Tillamook, and Richard L. Adams and wife Laurie of Tillamook; sisters B. Jean Knapp, Audrey A. Kimber, Virginia Yates and Roxeanne Adams; grandchildren Roy and Jeannie Ellerbroek, Tara Adams, Lindsey Ellerbroek, and Kyle and Hollie Adams; and great-grandchildren Zachary, Hailey, Seth and Peighton.
A memorial service will be held for Richard E. "Rich" Adams at 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at Waud's Funeral Home in Tillamook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tillamook Volunteer Fire Department. A potluck gathering will be held after the memorial at Alderbrook Hall on Alderbrook Road, Tillamook. Internment will be held at a later date at Sunset Heights Memorial Gardens.
