Margaret's four sons were very young when the couple married; the youngest, John, was about five years old. Their names, in order of birth, were James, Henry B., George and John. The only child known to be born to William and Margaret was William Jr., born in 1818. This son William remained on his parent's homestead all his life. All the boys lived to have families of their own and all were farmers. George was the only one that left Athens Co., Ohio. George located to Iowa as early as 1841, and after his wife died he married again and located to Oregon.
Like so many farmers of the time, William was active through the years in buying and selling land.
