ADAIR, James (Jim) Edward, 89, passed away in Tucson, AZ on Saturday August 16, 2008. He was born in Chicago, IL to parents, William Edward and Alice Mabel (Armstrong) Adair. He spent his youth in Pen Yan and graduated from Lavonia High School in New York. He enrolled and graduated from Roosevelt Aviation School in 1939 in Long Island, NY upon graduation he went to work for Curtis Wright Aviation in Buffalo, NY. In 1940 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He trained flight crews and helped train Jimmy Doolittles' flight crew before they left for Japan. While on maneuvers in Georgia he met his future wife Boyda Lacy on a blind date and they were later married on July 4, 1943. Upon his discharge in 1944 he went to work for TWA in Kansa City, MO then moved to Tucson, AZ in 1945 where he earned his instructors, commercial an multi engine pilot ratings. He retired from Hughes Aircraft in 1970. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout their marriage in the United States and abroad. He is survived by his daughter, Jo Carol (Richard) Hutchins of Fleming Island, FL and two grandsons, James A. Stewart of Victor, NY and Corey L. Stewart of Buffalo, NY and four great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Boyda in 2000, his brother, William F. Adair and sister, Lillian Schuyler. Graveside services at Southlawn Cemetery. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME.
