A funeral will be held Saturday, June 14th, 2008 for 90-year-old Ewing M. Abernathy of Altenburg, who died Sunday, June 8th at Perry Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He was born September 24th, 1917 in Esther, the son of Duke E. and Marie L. (Sander) Abernathy, who both preceded him in death.

He married Gladys P. Moeslein on December 25th, 1948. She survives in Altenburg.

He is also survived by three sons and daughters in law: Michael and Linda Abernathy of Vancouver, Washington, Roger E. and Titania Abernathy of the island of Moorea in Tahiti and Jonathon and Freida Abernathy of Frohna; one daughter and son in law, Linda and Richard Gollahon of Rolla; three sisters and a brother in law: Norma Sadler of Columbia, Frances and Cliff Cromer of Cleveland and Margaret Eubanks of Jefferson City; one brother and sister in law: William "Bill" and Jerri Abernathy of Sarasota, Florida; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son: Mark Abernathy; a brother: Medford "Pep" Abernathy; and two sisters: Virginia Hoehne and Viola Abernathy.

He was the owner and operator of E. M. Abernathy and Sons Office Equipment in Rolla. He later worked until his retirement with Ollie Hoehn's Office Supplies in Perryville.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 13th and 6:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14th at the Young and Sons East Perry Chapel.

A funeral for 90-year-old Ewing M. Abernathy of Altenburg will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14th at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside service provided by American Legion Post No. 133. The Rev. Steven Dressler will officiate.
