Fair Play (Ste. Genevieve, MO Newspaper), 4 May 1918: Died. Miss Lucette Scott, daughter of Evans Scott was born near Minnith, Ste. Genevieve County, Mo., in October 1834, and died after an illness of about eight months at her home in Ste. Genevieve, Friday night April 26, 1918, aged 83 years and 6 months. In 1856 she was united in marriage to Ferdinand K. Abernathy, to which union were born seven children, five boys and two girls, five of whom are still living, Mrs. Amadee Boyer of Ste. Genevieve, Columbus of St. Louis, August of Ste. Genevieve, Ferdinand in Canada, and Robert the City Marshal of Ste. Genevieve, 14 grand children and 13 great grandchildren. On March 18, 1888, her husband died, since which time she has lived a widow caring for her children and blessing others while she lived. She and her husband made a public profession of religion early in life and were active and worthy members of the Methodist Church. Mother Abernathy was a good woman, devoted and loved as daughter, wife, mother, Christian, and friend, for many years patient, cheerfully ready and willing to go to the heavenly home when the master should call her. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Ste. Genevieve, Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Brief remarks were made by Rev. W. Ward Smith, founded on the 23rd Psalm, and the choir rendered very appropriate music. All the children being present with the exception of Ferdinand, and a large number of sympathizing friends and acquaintances, after which the body was laid to rest in the choice Catholic Cemetery, where soon the children propose to place the body of their father, and thus father and mother will peacefully rest side by side. “One more at home! That home where separation cannot be, That home where none are missed eternally, Lord Jesus grant us all a place with Thee, At home in Heaven!” W. W. S.”
