Shirley "S.C." Bordes, 91 years of age, departed this life on Monday, March 31st, 2008 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

"S.C." was born in Copper Creek of Rockcastle County, Kentucky on October 26th, 1916, son of the late John Francis and Lilly McBee Bordes. He was a salesman for the Carter Corporation of Louisville for 45 years, traveling from Somerset to Bardstown to Louisville and all the way to Harriman, Tennessee. It was during one of his earlier trips to Somerset with his work that he met his future wife, Ada Canada, at the Beecher Hotel, as she was working part time away from her school teaching job. "S.C." served in the United States Army 221st Signal Depot Company during World War II, being stationed in Belgium and in France. He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of the First Christian Church of Somerset and was a member of the Kiwanis Club also of Somerset.

"S.C." was survived byhis wife, Ada Bordes; one son, Bill Bordes, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; one sister, Beulah Quinn, of Louisville, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

Visitations were held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 at the Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4th, 2008 in the Chapel of the Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory with the Rev. Joe Altman officiating.

Bro. David Pendley provided music for the service. Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Post #38.

Interment followed in the Somerset City Cemetery.
