Karen L. Powley-Ammerman, 56, Duncansville, died Tuesday at Altoona Regional after an extended illness surrounded by her husband and her loving family.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Charles S. and Helen M. (Gibson) Powley. She married Tracy S. "Bird Dog" Ammerman on Aug. 31, 1996, at Eldorado United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband; six siblings: Eleanor F. Dively of Puzzletown, Charles R. Powley and wife, Karen, of Altoona, Edrie K. Dively and husband, Ron, of Lincoln Park, Mich., John M. Powley and wife, Sandy, of Roaring Spring, Jane C. Russell and husband, Vince, of Altoona and M. Peggy Bowman and husband, Jim, of Hollidaysburg; her special friend and caregiver, Tricia Ford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Karen was a 1974 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School and a graduate of Pruonto's Hair Design Institute. She was a beautician at J.C. Penney Co., Altoona, for the past 28 years. She attended Puzzletown Bible Church, and she enjoyed walking, fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, gardening, cooking, crossword puzzles, biking, reading and spending time with her four cats: Midnight, Rusty, Tyler and Gracie.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Puzzletown Bible Church, where a funeral service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, Pastors Jon Gross and Lynn Johnston officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.

Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.
