Robert Amber came to Wabash Co. Indiana about 1837 with other members of his family. He married Permelia Freeman, daughter of George A. Freeman, on Dec. 31, 1846 in Wabash Co. Indiana. The land that is now Half Acre/Long Cemetery was owned by Robert Amber at the time of the establishment of the cemetery. Robert was elected Justice of the Peace in 1876 and 1880 and also served in the Union Army during the Civil War, enlisting as a private in Co. B, 118th Reg't, Indiana Infantry on Sept. 2, 1863. He was mustered out of that unit for health reasons at Indianapolis on Mar. 1, 1864. Robert Amber is the brother of my gr. gr. grandmother, Martha (Amber) Freeman.
