Jack enlisted in the Navy in 1943, and served as an Ensign in the Merchant Marines during WWII. Rate/Rank AVCAD, Service Branch USN 5/1943 - 7/1944

Jack Langdon Kurt Grunwald, age 82, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, August 31, 2008. Jack was born in Denver on February 21, 1926 to Otto and Helene Grunwald.

He graduated from East High School in 1943. As a member of the East High School Basketball team, he was awarded All State and All City honors as a guard.

He was known affectionately by his friends as "Sonny". Jack enlisted in the Navy in 1943, and served as an Ensign in the Merchant Marines during WWII. After his military service, he attended Denver University and the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

He married Nancy Newcomb and together started a local delivery service using a station wagon. Jack, a Denver business pioneer, founded Acme Delivery Service in 1947 and by the late 1960's; his company had become the largest warehouse in the Rocky Mountain region. His dedication, hard work and leadership, have lead to the success of Acme as a major employer in the Denver area. He will be greatly missed by all his employees.

Jack headed the Steering Committee for the start up of the Ringsby Rockets basketball team, now the Denver Nuggets. Jack was a very generous man, always taking care of everyone, with the utmost respect from all those around him. He was recognized by the Boys and Girls Club of Denver, among others, for his continued charitable giving.

Jack had a passion for thoroughbred horses and owned one of the largest stables during the Centennial Race Track years. Jack was an active member of Lakewood Country Club; he was very well respected by his fellow members and was known as a real "gentleman".

He was preceded in death by Nancy Grunwald. He is survived by his present wife, Pat Grunwald, his sister Pat Engelhardt, sister Velda Wilson, daughter Barbara Feeney, daughter Judy Grunwald, son Jack Grunwald and wife Jodi, step-son Michael Parks and wife Jennifer, step-daughter Kristi Lynch and husband Tim, his grandchildren Bill Bradley and wife Karie -Ann, Tiffany Jack and husband Brandon, Brittany Feeney, Robby Grunwald, Elle Grunwald, Nicole Grunwald, Keagan Lynch and his great -grandchildren Langdon, Roman, Cannon, Tahler, and Jiana.

Jack was the owner of the company I worked for 13 years. He was always so kind, always complimenting me on my work with a pat on my back. This just made me try a lot harder to be dedicated to my job. I will always remember his generousity.
