Martin was born in Alleghany County NC when it was still Ashe Cty NC. His parents were David and Sarah Allison.
His siblings were Jackson, William, jane, Margaret, mason, james b, nancy and Lucinda.
At the age of three his family moved to Marion Va for many years. In 1861 he enlisted while he was in college in the CSA army. He served as a private in Capt JT Levi's Battery Light Artillery, Thomas Legion NC Light Artillery and Capt Barr's Battery Light Artillery Va. He was at the battle of Gettysburg. Family tradition says Genl Robert E lee gave him
a silver spoon as keepsake.
On Sept 25 1965 he married Elizabeth aka Betsy Young.
The couple eloped in NC.
10 children: Amanda jones, belle burtwistle, lulie peters, Charles, john, della.
Martin came west to Chase Cty Kansas in 1887/88 and lived there 3 months. Then they moved to Cass Cty Nebraska. He worked in a stone quarry. In 1889 they moved to Stanton Cty Nebraska to farm. The family moved to Stanton town in 1899.
Martin was a life long Methodist. He died at home.
Martin was the grandfather of Bud Tinning, major league baseball player with the Cubs in the 1936 world series.
