Kermit F. Alvis, 87, Sarasota, died April 21, 2005. He was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Princeton, Ind., and came to Sarasota 50 years ago from there. He owned an appliance and television store and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was commander and president of the Holding Co. with DAV Post 3, Sarasota. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Sarasota. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie; a daughter, Maryland Montgomer of St. Louis, Ill.; stepdaughters Pattie Hamilton and Tina Strief, both of Sarasota; sons Frank of Wedowee, Ala., and Stephen of Lincoln, Neb.; stepsons Michael E. and Terry L. Strief, both of Sarasota; a brother, Earl of Palatka; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sarasota Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
