Funeral services for Mrs. Lila Edith Crofford Alford, age 97, of Austonio, will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Boggs Cemetery. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Cherokee Children's Home, P. O. Box 295, Cherokee, TX 76832.

Mrs. Lila Edith Crofford Alford, age 97, of Austonio, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in Temple. She was born on October 10, 1914 on the Mustang Prairie in Houston County, Texas, the sixth of eight children born to Matthew Washington and Georgia Edith Crofford. Lila lived most of her life in Austonio, the community of Ash. She and Charles lived 36 years in Houston before retiring back to Austonio. Lila was a Christian and was baptized into Christ at age 14 by Brother Ernest Witt in Mr. Owen Brown's tank. She read her Bible every day and believed strongly and completely in prayer. Lila loved Gospel Hymns and was a member of the Ash Church of Christ. She lived faithful to her confession until her death.

Lila is survived by her children, Patsy Friday of Humble, Wendell Alford and wife, Glenda of Newellton, Louisiana, Nila Sparks and husband, Delvin of Salado; grandchildren, James M. (Hoppy) Friday and wife, Cindy, Tricia Friday Walker and husband, Paul, Peggy Friday Tate and husband, Scott, Greg Sparks and wife, Ann, Jennifer Sparks Scott and husband, Jeff, Shelby Alford Smith and husband, Daniel, Ashlin Alford Doyle and husband, Matt, and Whitney Alford; great-grandchildren, Doug Friday and wife, Leah, Nick Friday and wife, Alicia, Marc Friday, Amanda Friday Fisk and husband ,Roger, Cameron Walker and Meredith Tate, Emily, Stephanie, and Scott Sparks, Rachel, Abigail and Noah Scott, Charles Lane Smith and coming soon Baby Doyle; great-great grandchildren, Abby and Tessa Friday and Reese Friday; sisters, Mattie Womack of LaPorte, Mary Lee Vaden of the Ash Community and Doris Hallmark of Fort Worth; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles Milton Alford; parents, Matthew W. and Georgia Edith Crofford; three sisters, Bessie Milliff, Ottice Allee, Tibble Brewton; brother, Marvin Crofford and son-in-law, James Friday.
