Enlisted as a Private in Company D, 2nd Wisconsin Infantry on May 18, 1861. Participated in both battles of Bull Run and in all other engagements of his regiment until the battle of South Mountain, where he was wounded. Received a Disability Discharge on March 4, 1863.

"The death of Bela W. Beebe, a clerk in the Treasury Department, occurred at an early hour this morning at his home 800 A Street Southwest. He was sixty-three years of age and a veteran employee of government service. The funeral will occur from his late residence at 3 o'clock next Saturday afternoon. The interment will be in Rock Creek Cemetery."
