Columbia, SC - Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred James Abney will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 11 AM in the First Nazareth Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held Monday, November 16, 2015 between 4 and 9 PM at the Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel.
Born in Eastover, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Mattie Weston James. She graduated from C. A. Johnson High School, Class of 1950, Allen University and received her Master’s from S. C. State University. She retired from Richland County School District One after 33 years of teaching. She was also a dedicated member of First Nazareth Baptist Church; serving in many capacities.
Surviving are her son: Jonathan (Iris) Abney; two granddaughters: Michelle (James) Johnson and Jessica Abney; one great-grandson: Zyan Abney; a special grandson: Tyrone (Jonique) Brown; other loving relatives and friends.
