"Tar Heel - James Fred Martin Sr., 69, died Tuesday, March 5, 1996 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
He was born August 28, 1926 in Robeson County and was the son of the late Worth Martin Sr. and Beulah Kinlaw Martin. He was employed for many years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation as Road Maintenance Supervisor and was also owner and operator of Martin's Shell in Tar Heel.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 7 at 3 p.m. at Love Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Phil Lloyd and Milton McCormick officiating. Burial will be in the Scriben Family Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Jordan Martin of the home; a son, James Fred Martin Jr. of Tar Heel; two daughters, Della Ann Martin of Fayetteville and Terri Martin Jacobs of Lumberton; three brothers, Worth Martin Jr. of Kure Beach, David Gene Martin and William A. Martin both of Lumberton; a sister, Mary Ellen Jones of Hampton, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Floyd Mortuary, Inc in Lumberton."
