Son of Abraham Brown and Mary Jane Eckleberry. Born in Wyandot County Ohio. He was the youngest of 11 children.

His death is documented. What we cannot find is a certified copy of a death certificate. What we can confirm:
1) Detroit Newspapers report that he was found unresponsive in his room in a rooming house by his landlady. He died upon arrival at Detroit Receiving Hospital, on July 18, 1916. The body was sent for a coroner's autopsy. The body was buried at an as-of-yet unidentified grave in a potters field in Detroit.
2) His brother, after hiring a private investigator, who went to Detroit and found the witnesses to his death, the brother went to Michigan and had the body exhumed, verified that the man was his brother. The remains were then shipped to Marion, Ohio on December 13, 1916. The remains were picked up by Schaffner Undertaking and delivered to Grand Prairie Cemetery for burial on December 14, 1916.
3) Newspaper accounts in Detroit state that Brown died of Heat Stroke. However, Grand Prarie Cemetery records state that he died of influenza.
4) Schauffner's Mortuary in Marion provided transport of the body from Marion Union Station to Brush Ridge, but their records do not contain any type of death certificate or other official paperwork.
5) Three newspapers covered the death. The July 19, 1916 editions of the Detroit Times and Detroit Free Press both carried stories about his death and how little was known of him. The December 14th Marion Star confirms the death date of July 16th, and confirms the arrival of the body and its final committal.
6) on August 15, 2022, the creator of this memorial received a letter from the Michigan Vital Records Division that stating that after a manuel search by their department, that no death certificate is known, or found. An employee of the coroner's office of Wayne County Michigan states that "all historical records pertaining to any autopsy "before a certain" have been destroyed.
