Son of Elijah and Rachel (Downing) Anderson who married August 26, 1810, in Franklin County Kentucky. Grandson of Joseph Anderson who was with George Rogers Clark across Illinois to Kaskaskia in the Revolutionary War. Joseph Anderson carried the news of the victory at Kaskaskia back to Louisville. Later Joseph Anderson was with the first part of the Lewis and Clark expedition to Louisville.
Willis A. Anderson owned 100s of Acres in the 1840s and 1850s. Real Estate value $21,000 in 1860 Census. CSA Service early in the Civil War. Statement of the Union Provost Marshall Papers 1861-1866 dated 11-28-1864: Willis Anderson "in the Confederate Army with Green's Regiment" [at Athens] "but he surrendered and now supports the Union and hasn't helped any rebel or seen Hamilton Nelson, but the robbers were at his house..."
Knox County biography lists Joseph S. as a son, does not list Martha, Nathan, or Walton who died young.
