"William Earl Neal Doty passed away December 29, 2014, in Huntsville, Texas, at the age of 88. A good man and wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather, he was loved and respected and will be greatly missed.
"He is survived by his wife Wilma (Patchett), with whom he shared a loving marriage of 67 years, and their four children: Sara Bruhn of Huntsville, Texas, her spouse Rick and their 3 children and 5 grandchildren; Faye Maxwell of Austin, Texas, and her spouse James; Stan Doty of Los Altos, California, his spouse Claudia and their two children; and Gail Miller of La Canada, California, her spouse Robert and their three children and one grandson. He is also survived by his brother Al Doty, sister Vivian Randall, sister-in-law Jean Stubblefield and her spouse John, and 13 nieces and nephews and their families.
"Bill was born in Webb City, Missouri, on April 2, 1926, and grew up in small towns in Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma University where he was in the Navy's V12 officer training program. He was called to active duty on a mine sweeper near the end of WWII. After the war and completing college at Oklahoma State, he went to work for Conoco in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and later in Houston. Starting as a research engineer, he became a successful oil exploration and coal business development executive. Along the way, he obtained an MBA as a Sloan Fellow at MIT. Including his years at its subsidiary Consolidated Coal in Pittsburgh (a few of which were after DuPont acquired Conoco), he worked for Conoco his entire career. His achievements include co-inventing the oil exploration system known as Vibroseis for which he was recognized by receiving the prestigious DuPont Lavoisier Medal for Technical Achievement and other awards. After retiring, he and Wilma moved to Walden on Lake Conroe where they lived for almost 30 years. During retirement, Bill enjoyed his investment activities, traveling with Wilma, golf, and coffee groups with golfing buddies and the Montgomery Philosophical Society.
"A Memorial Service will be conducted at 10:30am on Monday, January 19, 2015, at the Montgomery (Texas) United Methodist Church, where Bill and Wilma were active members for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Montgomery United Methodist Church, Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, or a charity of your choice.
