DEATH SUMMONS ASHTON PIONEER

Mrs. Anton Adamski, aged 65, passed away at her home in Ashton Tuesday morning, Nov. 7. She had been suffering for some time from bronchial pneumonia and, because of her advanced age, was unable to overcome the disease. At her bedside were all her children who could possibly be here in time; of the nine living children all were here except two sons, James of California and Joseph of Oregon.
Elizabeth Adamski, daughter of Stanley and Mary Michalski, was born in Poland, November 19 1847 [sic] . She married Anton Adamski in Poland in the year 1869. Mr. Adamski came to America in 1871 and his wife came in 1874; they settled in Calumet, Mich. In the year 1881 they homesteaded on a farm north of Schaupps and lived on this farm for six years, during which time they struggled for a livelihood, enduring the hardships and privations that all of the hardy pioneers who settled in this part of the state were forced to undergo at that time.
The homestead place was sold to Matt Janulewicz in 1887 and they then moved to a farm at Hays Creek in Valley County where they lived until 1900. They then moved to a farm east of Ashton, which they still own; they lived on the farm until the year 1909, when they moved to their home place in town in retirement.
Mrs. Adamski was the loving mother of a large and fine family. Her passing was the cause of extreme sorrow. In spite of her advanced age she attended church regularly. She was highly respected and loved by all who knew her.
She leaves to mourn her death nine children, five daughters, Harriett Hirschman of Kansas City, Kans.; Barbara Stegall of Anthony, Kans.; Agnes Wardyn of Ashton, Anna Daniels of Norfolk, Nebr.; and Mary Bydalek of Momence, Ill.; four sons, James of California, Joseph of Oregon, George of Omaha, Nebr.. and Edward of Ashton. Two children died in infancy, Victoria at the age of 5 years and Frank at the age of 1 1/2 years. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her death her husband, numerour relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at St. Francis' church Thursday, November 9, with Father Jarzemski officiating. Interment was made in Calvary cemetery. The funeral was attended by a very large congregation.
