A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, in St. Philip the Deacon Episcopal Church for Allan Zerman Bowens, who died Sept. 2 at age 69. Mr. Bowens was born April 14, 1929, in Widener, Ark. In the late 1940s, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He attended Arkansas Baptist College and Phalanda Business College in Little Rock, Ark. He moved to Portland in 1950 and worked for the Oregon Liquor Control Commission until 1965, when he started Bowens and Duncan, an accounting firm. He married Vessie Willis in 1952; she died in 1997. Survivors include his daughter, Terri Bowens Wickliff; five grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. His son, Richard L., died in 1983. Private interment will be in Skyline Memorial Gardens. The family suggests remembrances to his church or the American Cancer Society.
