Aliwal [The Battle of Aliwal was fought on 28 January 1846 in the Indian State of Punjab, between the British and the Sikhs.]
To the memory of / the Officer, Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates above inscribed [on the pillars at either side of the monument] / who fell in the discharge of their duty, / during the campaign on the Sutlej / in the years 1845, 1846. / This monument / is erected by their surviving comrades.
Gravesite Details
The standing officer wears the chapka, a Polish lancer's cap, with retaining lines, now worn by the Band of the Royal Yeomanry (IC&CY).
