JAKE AXELROD, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006. He was born in New York City, December 16, 1909 to Tillie and Nathan Axelrod. He attended schools in Houston and graduated from Rice Institute in 1930. He served as a Private in the Infantry before Pearl Harbor and retired as a Colonel in the Air Force. While stationed at the Atlantic City Training Center, he met Ruth Uretsky and after six weeks they married. Jake always said that what he liked most about New Jersey he brought back with him to Texas!

He is preceded in death by his brothers and sister. Jake is survived by his wife of 63 years Ruth, his sons Nathan Axelrod and wife Leslie, Ron Axelrod and wife Judy, and daughter Janis Frydland. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Lauren and Scott Tims, Andrew and Matthew Axelrod, Kelly and Jeffrey Frydland, and great-granddaughter, Gabriella Garcia.

Graveside services will take place at Emanu El Cemetery at 8341 Bissonnet on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m., with Rabbi Roy A.Walter officiating.
