Nettie De Mera Armas was born on March 31, 1909 to Anthony De Mera (Italy) and Vera Marchese De Mera (Italy), the third of nine children.

Nettie married Joseph Armas in 1928, and that union produced five children. They valued education and sacrificed to send all their children to Catholic schools.

Nettie was widowed in 1972 and thereafter spent much of her time cooking and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also became involved with arts and crafts, which are displayed in all the families homes.

A proud Italian and devoted Catholic, she held memberships in the Sons of Italy, Italian Catholic Federation, Maria Incornata Society and was Grand Marshal of the 2005 St. Elia Celebration.

Nettie passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the age of 103.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, son Donald, son-in-law Lew Duzi, her parents and her eight siblings.

She is survived by her children, Elvera Minnick, Audrey Duzi, Harvey Allen Armas and wife Lillian, and Gary Wayne Armas; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Heartfelt thanks go to the Sisters of Nazareth, the staff and residents of the Nazareth House and to the staff at St. Agnes Hospice.

A Viewing was held at Farewell Funeral Service, on Sunday, September 9, 2012, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. A Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, on Monday, September 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Nazareth House, 2121 No. First St., Fresno Ca 93703. Farewell, 660 West Locust Avenue, Fresno, California.
