Collin died as the result of an automobile accident on I-26 in Newberry, South Carolina. He was sixteen years old at the time of his death.

With him in the car was his dear friend Sarah Elizabeth Mecca, age eighteen. She also lost her life.

Collin was the beloved son of Mark and Susan Chittick.

Two weeks before his death, Collin publicly gave the following testimony:

"My name is Collin Chittick and I am a Christian. God made me with a purpose in my life. I am on earth for a divine reason. Whereas most people go through life either living moment-to-moment or living for the moment, I sense a higher calling. I will not spend my life beating the air.

"Therefore I am going to seek my biblically-based purpose for living. I will strive before God to be sure that all that I do in my life falls under the umbrella of this statement. To live with purpose and vision for eternal goals. My purpose in life is to love the Lord with all my heart and soul. To put Him first in everything I do in my life.

"I care very much about one person in my life (Sarah). She has helped me to build my faith. She has been there every time I needed her and I am thankful.

"I am also planning on spreading the Word of God to the unreached. There are many people who need to hear the Word of God.

"Most of all, the reason I praise God every day is for His Son, Jesus Christ. God is a loving, caring God. His works are amazing and His miracles are breathtaking. To know that no matter what I do wrong as a Christian, God will always forgive me, is a wonderful thing.

"I thank the Lord for the many blessings I have received. I know that in the future, God will continue to bless me more than I deserve. I love the Lord my God with all my heart and I thank Him for a second chance."

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

~I Thessalonians 4:13-14~

~*~

So live, that when thy summons comes to join
The innumerable caravan which moves
To that mysterious realm, where each shall take
His chamber in the silent halls of death,
Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night,
Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed
By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave
Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch
About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams.
