Betty S. Cherry, 75, of East Post Road SE, died Friday, Oct. 13, 1995, in Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Turner Chapel East, where friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Private burial: Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Hayward of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Survivors include her husband, Howard H. Jr.; a son, Howard H. III of Fairfield, Conn.; a daughter Jane C. Berger of Irvington, N.Y.; a son, George F. of Cedar Rapids; and four grandchildren, Heather S. Cherry and Elizabeth A. Cherry, both of Fairfield Conn., and Andrew H. Berger and Kate S. Berger, both of Irvington, N.Y.
Betty was born Aug. 7, 1920, in Perry, Iowa. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1937 attended Stephens College from 1937 to 1938, and graduated from Drake University with a BA degree in 1941. Betty married Howard H. Cherry Jr. on Feb. 10, 1942, in Des Moines. She was an emeritus trustee of Mount Mercy College, emeritus board member of Tanager Place and a member of Ladies Literary club, PEO, American Cancer Board and First Presbyterian Church. She was past president of Junior League of Cedar Rapids, YWCA, Children's' Home of Cedar Rapids, Tanager Place and Public Health Nursing Association.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Medical Foundation, 710 10th St. SE, or the YWCA, c/o Madge Phillips Foundation, 318 Fifth St. SE.
