Nedra A. Chapman
July 6, 1921 - April 16, 2009

A funeral service for Nedra Chapman, 87, of Jefferson will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Willamette Memorial Park.  Eastern Star will be conducting a special ritual in her honor at the service.  Reception to follow at the Masonic Temple in Jefferson, Or.

Nedra was born on July 6, 1921 in Glendive, Montana and passed away April 16, 2009 in Salem.  She was raised in Trout Lake, Wash., at the base of Mount Adams. Nedra graduated from Trout Lake High School in 1939.  She worked as a waitress for many years and was well known in the Salem area as one of the best.  In the later years of her life, she enjoyed being a "Demo Lady" at Costco.

Nedra married Wayne Chapman on June 3, 1943 in Vancouver, Wash.  Wayne preceded her in death in 1996.  After living in the Roseburg area for 8 years, they moved to Salem-Jefferson area in 1953. She was known for her love of gardening, canning, knitting, and card playing.  She had a great love of animals.  She was a wonderful mother and the matriarch of the family for years.  She was loved by all who met her.  Nedra had a wonderful sense of humor and a very quick wit.  Many people enjoyed their special camaraderie with her.

She was an active member of Eastern Star and Veteran's of Foreign Wars in Jefferson, OR.

She is survived by children Jerry and Carolyn Chapman of Soldotna, Alaska, Diana Meithof and her fiance Ted Parks of Stayton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers; a sister; and son-in-law William Meithof. Viewing will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to the Willamette Valley Humane Society, 4246 Turner Road SE, Salem, OR.
