Effie J. Cherry, 97, a resident of the Virginia Gay Annex in Vinton, since 1975, died at the Annex, at 5:35 a.m. Monday, April 9. She was born the daughter of Richard and Christina Peyton Anderson on June 25, 1886 at Paris, Iowa. On Feb. 12, 1907 at Marion, she was married to Elmer Cherry. He died on Aug. 29, 1972. Mr. and Mrs. Cherry farmed in the Marion area until their retirement. She was a member of the Marion Christian Church and the West Marion Garden Club.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (DeVee) Skinner of Vinton; seven grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Carl R. and a daughter, Edna Trimble.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, conducted by Rev. Kenneth Adcock. Interment Cedar Memorial Park. A memorial fund has been established.
