Served in the U.S. Navy from Aug. 5, 1908 to July 13, 1912. Honorably discharged as 3rd Class Gunners' Mate. Served aboard the U.S.S. Vermont.
An interesting side note: Darrell, his mother and two brothers were survivors of the San Francisco Earthquake on April 18, 1906.
