One of four children born into a farming family who had relocated from Illinois to Wisconsin, Missouri and Kansas, John Paul Ashton was born July 30th, 1890 in Sterling, Logan Co., Colorado. Three more children would be born before the turn of the century. By 1910, John Paul's family had relocated to St. John, Whitman Co., Washington, where they purchased another farm, which is in the same state that his older sister, Effie Adelia, had moved to after marrying Guy Arthur Silvis (they initially lived in Willapa, Pacific Co., WA before moving East to Iowa by 1903).
John Paul (who was known as Paul) met Otis Myrtle Bass (b. 1891) and they married on November 22nd, 1912 in Albany, Linn Co., Oregon, purchasing and living at a farm of their own in West Halsy, Linn Co., Oregon, which is where they continued to live in 1920 and where they were living when the census was taken that year. They had also been blessed with three daughters, Pauline Ruth, b.Sep 20, 1913, Ada Belle, b.Feb 12, 1915, and Daisy Mae, b.Apr 28, 1917. By 1930, their daughters were teenagers and attending school, although the family now had purchased another farm in Calapooia (s. of Sweet Home, in Linn Co.). They also had a Radio set (a question asked in the 1930 Census). During the next decade, all three daughters would marry and leave home. However, Ada Belle Ashton was a member of the 1932 graduating class at Albany High School, Albany, Oregon, so I would assume they had moved back to the Albany area before Ada graduated. So, before 1935, Paul and Otis had relocated once more, purchasing a farm in Knox Butte, on Knox Butte Rd. just east of Albany. Only (John) Paul and Otis were living there when the 1940 census was taken on May 16th, 1940. The farm was mortgage free and valued at $18,000.
Otis was taken to Albany General Hospital due to Cachexia (a weakness and wasting of the body due to severe chronic illness), heart issues and long time Diabetes and Renal disease, where she passed from this life on July 9th, 1964. Daughter Pauline Ruth, who had married Kenneth W. Tracewell in Apr 1941 signed her mother's death certificate. Interestingly, the funeral of Otis Myrtle Ashton was handled by Tracewell Funeral Home in Sweet Home, Oregon. Otis was interred at Willamette Memorial Park, Albany, Linn Co., Oregon.
John Paul Ashton left this world December 6th, 1972. He was interred at Willamette Memorial Park, as well.
Their daughters:
Pauline Ruth Ashton was married twice. She was 1st married to Cecil A. Elder (1908-1973) on Jul 15, 1936 in Benton Co., Oregon. Cecil was a school teacher and a veteran who owned his own home in King Valley Pct., Benton Co., Oregon. In 1940, the home had been valued at $2,800. When the census was taken Apr 24, 1940, Cecil stated he was married, although he was living alone. [Cecil enlisted in the Army Jun 6, 1942 and served until Sep 25, 1945.] He remarried to Rosanna, who is listed as his spouse in the Oregon Death Index for May 18, 1973. He was interred at Willamette Memorial Park, Albany, Linn Co., Oregon.
Pauline remarried on April 5th, 1941 in Vancouver, Clark Co., Washington to Kenneth W. Tracewell of Pierce Co., Washington. Pauline passed away on December 16th, 1996 in Eugene, Lane Co., Oregon. I have not found where she is buried.
Ada Belle Ashton married twice. She was first married to J.H. Keith on June 1st, 1936. Her 2nd marriage was to Donald R. Broadwater in June, 1969. She and Donald divorced in Marion Co., Oregon on February 7, 1973. Ada worked for the Linn County Sheriff's Office until her retirement in December, 1979. She died at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Lane Co., Oregon on January 18th, 1984. She was laid to rest at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany, Oregon.
Daisy Mae Ashton married once, on April 7th, 1940 to Delivan Lillard Burkhart (1913-1998). They became parents and both worked, raising their children in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. Both she and Delivan were laid to rest at Willamette Memorial Park, Albany, Linn County, Oregon.
May they all Rest, at Peace, in Eternity.

Any information regarding Pauline Ashton Tracewell's final resting place would be greatly appreciated.
