Her parents were William Walter Bass & Sophia C (Woodring) Bass from North Carolina.

Otis Myrtle Bass was the second of eight children borne to William Walter Bass and Sophia Caroline [Woodring] Bass, a farming couple who relocated from North Carolina to St. John, Whitman County, Washington prior to the 1910 Census. The other children in her family were:
Narvy C., Carlton, Estus V., William Walter Jr., John H., Virginia F., and Lena Bass.
She married John Paul Ashton on November 22nd, 1912 in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. In 1915, the family was living in Tangent, Linn County, Oregon, on a farm. By 1920, when the next census was taken, they had moved onto a farm in the West Halsey area of Linn County, that John owned and they also had three young daughters: Pauline, age 6, Ada, age 4, and Daisy, age 2. All of the girls had been born in Linn County, Oregon, most likely on their parents' farm. By 1930, John and Otis had been married 17 years and had purchased a farm in Calapooia, Linn County. Their daughters were all teenagers, Paul was still farming and he and Otis were owners of their farm. They also had a radio set. Their daughters married between 1930 and 1940. Paul and Otis relocated onto Knox Butte Road, east of Albany, in Linn County. Their farm was valued at $18,000 and they had lived there since at least 1935. Otis Myrtle passed from this life on July 9th, 1964 at the Albany General Hospital from complications of diabetes. Her grieving husband buried her at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. John Paul's life ended on December 6th, 1972. He was laid to rest by his wife at Willamette Memorial Park, Albany, Oregon.
May they Rest, at Peace, with their Loved Ones in Heaven.
