Claiborne Barbur was a son of Claiborne Eli Burkhart (1842-1928) and Eliza J.(Pickle) Burkhart (1848-1889). He married Lettie Walker on May 12, 1895. She lived from Apr 22, 1879 to Dec 3, 1961. Claiborne and Lettie had eoght children during their marriage. Bruce McDonald was b. Mar 1896, [but died while serving his country in World War 1 on Nov 5, 1918 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.*]. Carce, a son, was b. Aug 1897, & Homer G. was b. Feb 3, 1899, but died Sept 12, 1901. Dempster was b. Aug. 1900, Alice Blanche, their first daughter, was b. Feb. 1903, and married Charles Edgar Kosier. Fred L. was b. Feb 17, 1906, and married Ruth. Theodore was b. Sept 1907, and Ellen was their last child, born in 1913, but dying in 1917. Claiborne was a farmer all of his life. In 1927, at the age of 56, he was kicked by a mule, sustaining serious injuries. He was admitted to the Riverside-Fort Sanders Hospital but died on Friday, Nov 25th, 1927 in the hospital. Mr. Burkhart's funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this afternoon (sic) of Nov 27th, 1927 at the Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church, with Rev.J.A.Cassidy officiating. Mr.Burkhart was then buried at Asbury Cemetery. Lettie, now a widow, with her children grown, went to live with her parents for a few years. When Lettie Belle (Walker) Burkhart passed on Dec 3rd, 1961, she joined her husband & son, Homer (1899-1901), at Asbury Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee.
