Grandson of Samuel Bailey and Mary Walker - the son of Burrell Bailey and Nancy Bailey.

Husband of Elizabeth McComas, and the father of eight children with this first wife.

[Two subsequent marriages, one to Louisa Fletcher (7 Feb. 1888) and the next to Polly Bailey, daughter of Floyd R. & Zelpha (6 Oct. 1892) could have produced children, but I have no data on these.]

Veteran, CSA.

Serving in Company I 59th of the Confederate Infantry, 3 July 1863,
Wilson was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg during Pickett's Charge*, halfway through the valley. Though shot in the chest, he was found the next day, recovered from his wound, and lived a long life.

He died of old age at Crumpler in Northfork district, a widower, 88 years, 5 months, & 25 days. The informant on the death record was his son, Levi Edward Bailey.
**************************************************************
*Close to 6,000 Confederates are estimated to have perished in this charge alone, without the count of those who died during the rest of the battle.

Suggested EDIT: The record for where Wilson Bailey was wounded should be changed to match his Civil War record I uploaded to this page. He was wounded during the Confederate retreat from Gettysburg on July 10th at Jones X Roads. Additionally, he was in the 59th Infantry and captured at the Battle of Roanoke Island NC. He was subsequently "paroled" and when he return he enlisted in the VA 17th Calvary and this is the unit he was in when wounded, not the VA 59th Infantry.
