CRANDALL JR., GORDON A. died Tues morning, June 26 at his home under the loving care of his wife of 34 years, Jean Starr Crandall and caretaker Charlee Harris.
Preceded in death by his parents Gordon A. Crandall, Sr. and Ella E. Crandall, his brother George P. Crandall, stepson A. Boyd Jones and son John M. Crandall.

Born Aug. 31, 1927 Gordon, known as Bill to his family and friends, had a long and successful career as a marine contractor. He was a graduate of Charlotte Hall Military Academy in 1945. In his younger life he served the Centenary Church as deacon and was a driver for the Shady Side Vol. Fire Dept. and managed the SS Vol. F.D. Little League Baseball team. He was also a lifelong member of the Lions Club.

Noted in life was his part in saving the residents of Shady Side from the perils of a week long blizzard in the mid 1950's that sealed the entire community in with 6 to 10' deep snow. Using oil from his own home heating system his bull dozer broke through to cheers from the many SS men digging desperately for freedom. In 1976 his company crane saved a Volkswagen stranded in the middle Spa Creek from the melting ice. He also replaced the boardwalk in O.C. after a 1965 hurricane and was contracted by the state of Maryland to remove deteriorating and abandoned vessels from the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in the 70's among a few of his many contributions to the Bay and S. Anne Arundel Co. that he so loved. In retirement he was a volunteer at the hospital in Sabastian, Fla. and meals on wheels.

He was known to all as honest and direct.

He is survived by his wife Jean Starr Crandall, 4 children Gordon A. Crandall, lll and wife Susan, Bonnie Crandall Hall and husband Jack, James C. Crandall and wife Marie, Susan L. Crandall, 2 step children David Jones and wife Sheila, Jeannie Mincher and husband Rod and 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be at 7-9pm on Fri. June 29 at the Hardesty Funeral Home 905 Galesville Rd, Galesville, MD. The funeral service will be held at the Centenary Methodist Church in Shady Side, MD. Sat. June 30 at 11am. He will be buried at Woodfeild Cemetery directly after.
