Son of Alfonso and Benedetta (nee Di Francesco) Torregrossa. Born in Sicily circa 1865 or 1866.

Lived with his family in Lower Manhattan where he ran a successful grocery store and macaroni factory on James Street during the late 19th century until he retired in 1927. The family bought a house in Brooklyn which Federal Census records show they were living in 1920. Francesco and his wife Caterina continued to live in the same house with their daughter Edith and her husband Jack Dazzo during the 1940s.

Francesco was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 1945 and passed away on January 21, 1947. Funeral was held at Torregrossa Funeral Home, 1305 79th Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. with interment at St. John's Cemetery on January 24, 1947.
