S/Sgt Herman Yates was a soldier in the 603rd Ordnance Ammunition Company and was killed on 11 October 1943 in Sicily, together with three other men from his unit. Sgt Yates was buried in the temporary American GELA Cemetery in grave I-93-1105. The day of burial was 12 October 1943. After the war his remains were repatriated and buried in the Camp Butler National Cemetery Illinois, in grave E-276.
