Iris Elizabeth Downie Resident of Alamo Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was born September 28, 1922 and passed away May 7, 2011.

Iris leaves her loving, dedicated husband of 62 years, Harold Downie; her son Michael; her daughter Marcia and her husband Harvey Frye; her two grandchildren, Genevieve and her husband Adam Rozansky; and Caroline; her sister-in-law (who was always really a sister) Pauline Purnell, and her nieces Diane Jessee and Beverly Harrison, and her nephew Greg Purnell.

Iris was born to Jesse and Irene Harrison in Coos Bay, Oregon. Her father was brought to Oregon as a baby in a covered wagon from Minnesota. This pioneer spirit was evident in Iris when she not only graduated salutatorian of her high school class, but had the courage to continue her education and graduated from Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) in 1946 with a B.S. degree.

Iris married the love of her life, Harold, on December 19, 1948. The two were truly blessed to share more than 62 years together in a life filled with love with the adoption of their two children Michael and Marcia, and the births of their two grandchildren, Genevieve and Caroline; with adventure in traveling all over the world; and with success, as Iris was a true partner with her husband - she was in charge of everything inside the home, Harold with everything outside the home.

We as Iris's family would like to take this opportunity to thank Hillendale Home Care and Asera Care hospice for their compassionate care of our loved one these past several months, especially care givers Janet and Connie and nurse Sari who are truly "angels on this earth."

Services will be held in the Fireside Room at the San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church, where Iris and Harold were founding members, on Friday, May 13 at 1:00 pm.

Any donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Alzheimer's Disease Research.
