Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Smiths for Mrs. John F. Davenport, 88, who died at her house on Mason Creek after a several weeks' illness. Dr. D. Galbraith, lay reader of St. Peters Episcopal Church, read the burial service and interment was in the Center Point Cemetery, under the auspices of Bandera Chapter, No. 643, Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Davenport, the former Maggie Mildred Hudspeth, was born in Smithers Creek in Lavaca County, and came to Center Point as a bride 70 years ago. The home was on Mason Creek, about 12 miles south of Center Point, in Bandera County.
She was a devoted wife and mother, and her home life, her long membership in the Easter Star, and her assistance to those who were ill or in distress were her chief interests.
She is survived by five children, L. H. Davenport, Austin; Bob Davenport, Comfort; and Earl Davenport, Mrs. Polly Ware Walker, and Miss Josephine Davenport, all of Center Point; one sister, Mrs. D. D. Jackson of Toledo, Ohio; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
Pallbearers were all from Bandera and included Bob Fletcher, Less Short, Frank Langford, Marvin Hunter, Frank Montague and William Burns.
