James was born November 1, 1931 in Carrollton, Texas to Jay Frank Bailey and Gertrude Dorothy Skelton Bailey. He was a 1951 graduate of North Texas State University and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, from 1951-1954. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, serving on the USS DeHaven. James married Helen Glendinning on November 29, 1958 in Durant, Oklahoma. James was a long time member of Lewisville Bible Church and worked in the dairy business.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, children, Carrie Bailey Gandy and her husband Steve and Kellie Jo Bailey Pennington and her husband Scott; two grandchildren, Karrie Kalinda Wheeler and James Gordon Zeller; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Grace Cantu and Weston Edward Brooks and one sister, Laura Jean Largent.
