Rev. B. J. BROWN, Pioneer Colored Preacher
Rev. B. J. BROWN, for 23 years pastor of the Mount Olive (Colored) Baptist Church at Gainesville, died Sunday night in Dallas. He was 61 years old and is survived by his wife and six children, all of whom reside in Gainesville. Rev. Brown was one of the best known negro educators in Texas, being president of the North Texas College at Denison at the time of his death, and former president of the I. & M. College of Fort Worth for four years. A remarkable coincidence in connection with his death is the fact that the congregation here of his church here closed a week's celebration in honor of his 23rd anniversary as their pastor Sunday night. Funeral services will be held at the Mount Olive Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon.
