Please note that this is NOT a duplicate page - this page is for Ellen Fitzpatrick, the mother of this family, while her daughter Ellen, age 3, also died on the same date in a WWII bombing in Liverpool, England. Please DO NOT delete this page - Thank You!

Note: When a friend suggested that I read up on the Bentinck Street Bombing during the Blitz (I have also heard it called the Moon Street Bombing), I was stunned when, in my first 'case information' file, I came across a family who lost 7 members of their family. A mother and six of her children died, and the story behind The Fitzpatrick Family, and how one son survived simply because he felt safe enough to leave the shelter to go home to fetch a teapot is both fascinating and tragic.

Ellen Fitzpatrick was the mother of Ann, John, Edward, Bernard, Philip and Ellen; Mrs. Fitzpatrick and these six children would die when the makeshift shelter that they had sought refuge in was destroyed by a direct hit from enemy planes.

The surviving son, James (Jimmy) had in fact returned home for a teapot; while he was absent, disaster struck. The only other surviving Fitzpatrick child, daughter Catherine was at work that night, and was therefore spared. Mr. Fitzpatrick, father and husband, was also working that night and he, too, was spared.

I have found FGrave pages for all of the children except Edward and Ann; Mrs. Fitzpatrick, the senior Ellen, also seems to not have a page up. While I am in no way related to this family, nor friends with any of their ancestors, I found the story such a sad example of the complete and attempted annihilation of a country and their people by the enemy, that I felt the entire family should have pages up, and hopefully I will be able to link all together as I go forward with this task.

Ellen Fitzpatrick, as noted, was 39 years old at the time of her death; her children's ages ranged from one year to eleven years old.

Her widower Phillip (I have seen spelling for both 'Philip' and 'Phillip' for him), daughter Catherine and son James would go onto long lives...but one can only imagine the heavy heartache that was carried through their years.

All members of the original Fitzpatrick Family have now died, and the survivors from that night have rejoined the family, with all being buried at Ford Cemetery. On other sites, photos of the Fitzpatricks as well as the family stone at Ford Cemetery are posted, but as I am not certain of rights or permission to use them, I can only state to visitors of this memorial page to 'look up' those photographs for further information about this family and the Bentinck Shelter Bombing.
