One year old Annie Fitzpatrick died on December 20th, 1940 along with six other members of her family, including her mother, Ellen. The family had sought shelter in the Bentinck Shelter, which was destroyed in a direct hit from enemy planes.

Annie's father, Phillip (also spelled Philip) Fitzpatrick was working that night, as was a surviving daughter, Catherine; only one other Fitzpatrick would be spared. James (Jimmy) had originally been at the shelter with his family, but felt safe enough to return home for a teapot so that the family could make tea in the shelter. It was while he was gone that the shelter was destroyed.

There are many articles and photographs of the Fitzpatricks on the web, should anybody choose to research this event on their own; I simply am not linking photos, etc. because I am not certain of copy and other rights for any of them, and so will not risk it.

I am not related to this family in any way, and would be happy to turn my pages over to any friend or relative who requests it; four of the children killed already had their own pages up, and so I think at this point I may only be able to link the mother Ellen (a page that I put up) to two of her children. I hope to remedy this bump in the road asap - but interested readers can look up the other children by their full names -

Ellen (the junior Ellen, named after her mother), age 3
Philip, age 9
Bernard, age 7
John, age 11
Edward, age 5
Civilian
