The story of James Chinnery - at this point - is unknown, but as he and his parents are noted on the memorial stone of a known relative of mine, Mary Banks, I am attempting to discover the facts over a century later. What little I do know of James is listed below, and I would appreciate any and all comments or information from other FGrave members - Thank You!

James Chinnery died of typhoid fever (then called 'enteric fever') while in service during the South African War; he was interred, from what I can tell, at Standerton, South Africa (see stone). His parents were Robert and Faith Chinnery, and again from what I can decipher about the memorial stone information, they are themselves buried at Ballart Old Cemetery in Ballart, Australia with my relative Mary...they made certain to note their son on the same stone, although his remains were interred elsewhere.

I have never heard the last 'Chinnery' in my family history before, and I tried comparing Mary's date of death to James'; I thought perhaps that they were man and wife, or intending to wed when both died. However, Mary died in 1890, when James would have been 10 or 11 years old; I also cannot decipher where the stone says that Mary died at 22, or 72. Again, any information or thoughts will be greatly appreciated!
