Centralia

Mrs. Dora Ellen Roberts

Dora Ellen Jacolliot was born in Atchison in 1874 and passed away peacefully at her home in southeast Centralia April 2, at the age of 66 years, one month and three days.

She married Granville S. Roberts in Atchison, April 26, 1899 and settled on a farm 10 miles south of Centralia, which community remained her home until 10 years ago when she moved to her Centralia home. To this union were born six children.

Mrs. Roberts, with the other members of her family, united with the Methodist church in Centralia 20 years ago during the pastorate of Reverend E. H. Tannehill. She enjoyed her church and the Matron's Sunday school class, and attended as long as her health permitted. While ill last winter in her daughter's Vermillion home she greatly appreciated the calls of her daughter's pastor, the Rev. Howard Sanders. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America Camp No. 1048.

Mrs. Roberts was a kind and loving wife and mother, never complaining but trying to do a kind deed for others.

The deceased was preceded in death by a son, Carlysle Stanton, who died in infancy; a daughter, Ida May, who died at 10 years of age, and her husband December 22, 1937. There remain her son, Earl G., Centralia; her twin daughters, Fleta F. Bullock, and Floy F. Bullock, Vermillion; her daughter, Lorene R. Keeney, Onaga; nine grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Mary Seek, Clinton, Mo.

At the Roberts home Rev. Howard Sanders sang "He Leadeth Me." The pastor, Rev. J. B. Wright, quoted from John 14 and offered prayer. At the Methodist church the male quartet sang "In the Garden." The pastor read Psalm 98 and 2nd Corinthians 4-5. The Rev. Mr. Sanders offered prayer. The obituary was read followed by Beautiful Isle of Somewhere, sung by Mr. Sanders. The pastor preached from Luke, 9, 31. The quartet sang "No Night There." At the Centralia cemetery the pastor read the burial service. The Rev. Sanders offered prayer and sang, "Sweet By and By." The Lord's Prayer and the benediction completed the service. The musicians were: Rev. Howard Sanders, pastor of the Methodist church in Vermillion, L. D. Richardson, Havensville; A. E. Myers, Ray Condit and Mrs. Dona Hightower. The pallbearers were: Walter Smith, Frank Mentha, Sam Beard, Marion Noland, Will Hoskin and Ernest Spickelmeier.
