McMaster Dies; Former Councilman
Businessman, Attorney And Ex-State Senator
J. Lloyd McMaster, 64, 1953 D. Lincoln attorney, businessman and former member of the state legislature and city council, died Sunday at his home.
Mr. McMaster had organized the Western Good Roads Company and the Nebraska Neon Sign Company, retiring in 1948. Previously he had practiced law after his graduation from the University of Nebraska Law College in 1916.
NU Letterman
A Cornhusker letterman in cross country track, he was track coach at the University of Nebraska from 1916 until 1921. As a runner he specialized in the one, two and five-mile events.
Born in Alda, Neb., he came to Lincoln from Central City in 1911 and had lived here ever since.
Mr. McMaster served as a Boy Scout leader for many years and held the Silver Beaver medal.
He also was active in working with juvenile delinquents, with more than 80 boys having been paroled to him.
In 1925 Legislature
He served in the 1925 session of the state legislature and was a member of the city council in 1946 and 1947.
Mr. McMaster was a member of First Plymouth Congregational Church; Liberty Lodge 300, AF&AM, of which he was a charter member and Past Master; Scottish Rite; York Rite; honorary degree KCCH; Sesostris Shrine, of which he served on the director's staff; Temple Chapter 271, OES, of which he was Past Patron; High Twelve Club, of which he was a charter member, and advisory board of Rainbow Girls and DeMolay.
Survivors
Surviving are his wife, Dessie E.; two sons, J. Lloyd McMaster Jr. and Collins Stewart McMaster, both of Lincoln; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth D. Rose of Lincoln; his mother, Mrs. Margaret McMaster of Lincoln; a sister, Mrs. Fern Wathen of Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, Ronald of Lincoln and Reuel of Ennis, Mont., and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Plymouth Congregational Church, the Rev. Robert G. W. Collins officiating.
Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park with Liberty Lodge 300, AF&AM, in charge of graveside services.
