I, J. Wathen, manager of this memorial, am the niece of Kerry. His brother, Thomas Austin Wathen, was my father.

Obituary from The Topeka Capital-Journal, April 1985:

Kerry S. Wathen Sr., 37, 3310 E. 10th, died Monday, April 1, at a Shawnee County residence near 35th and Croco Road.

Dr. Hugh Moore, Shawnee County district deputy coroner, said Mr. Wathen died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Mr. Wathen was an artist. He worked in bronze sculpturing, oil painting, pen and ink, scrimshaw and other media. He also carved pipes and was a tattoo artist.

He was born June 27, 1947, at Seneca, the son of Thomas C. and Luella I. Roberts Wathen.

Mr. Wathen was a member of the Topeka Archery Club and National Tattooing Association. He was a former member of the National Guppy Association.

He was married to Patricia Ann Edwards Oct. 26, 1984. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Kerry Shawn Wathen Jr., at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Wathen, 3310 E. 10th; three sisters, Mrs. Miriam Their in West Germany, Mrs. Luella Fern Franqui, Yokota Air Force Base, Japan, and Mrs. Kathleen Hamilton, Bushnell, Fla.; three brothers, Maj. Thomas A. Wathen, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, Daniel E. Wathen, 3121 Fremont, and Sgt. Kim S. Wathen, Tulsa, Okla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home. Cremation is planned. Mr. Wathen will lie in state after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Kerry Wathen Sr. Memorial Fund to be designated by relatives and sent in care of the funeral home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., 66608.
