Lula Remster, age 90, of Freeburg, formerly of Marshalltown, IA, went to sleep in the Lord at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Brea of Cahokia in Cahokia.

Lula was educated and graduated from Chariton High School in Chariton, IA. On June 19, 1943, at the age of 17, she met and married Raymond Quinton Remster. Lula worked for the government as a welder in the shipyards during WW II and won medals for her welding precision. She later joined Fischer Controls, which is currently Emerson Electric. Lula obtained her electrician's certificate and became supervisor over the assembly of electronic parts for United States missiles. At the age of 65 she obtained her in-home care degree and spent the next 10 years caring for the elderly. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward and Emma Irene (O'Conely) Taft; her husband; a sister, Marion Ahrens; a brother, Orville Taft; and her step-siblings: Billy Taft, James Taft and Wanda Hailstock.

Surviving are a son, Ray Remster of Belleville; five grandchildren: John Remster, Jeff Remster, Jennifer Davis, Janelle Fanning and James Remster; 10 great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Charles Taft, Viola Miller, Donna Barker, Clara Robinson and Rita Devere.

Private services and entombment will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown, IA.
