Rose Marie Alvaro, 84, of Fairmont (Watson Community), passed peacefully from this life, with her loving family by her side, Saturday (July 20, 2013) at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born in Fairmont (Kingmont Community) on May 12, 1929, a daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa Beafore Police. She was an active member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, of which she was a member of the St. Elizabeth's Guild. She also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary and she drove for the Meals on Wheels program for many years. She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and attended Fairmont State College. In her younger years she had worked at the Lee Theater. She had also worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant and had been a teacher's aide for the Head Start program, and she and her husband owned the Alvaro Insurance Agency. A loving mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend and homemaker, Rose cared more about her family than she did herself. She was ever present at her children's activities and followed through with her grandchildren. She especially loved her weekly family meal at her home every Sunday. She enjoyed reading, watching WVU football and more than anything else keeping her beloved "Oney" true to his very busy schedule. She was truly "the woman behind the man." Mrs. Alvaro is survived by two daughters, Terri Bonasso and her husband Sam, and Tina Shaw and her husband Dave, and one son, Frank J. Alvaro, all of Fairmont. She also is survived by her 10 grandchildren, Daniel and his wife Theresa, Sammy, Sarah and Tressa Bonasso, Gary, Joseph, Andy and Michael Shaw, and Anthony and Anna Alvaro; several nieces and nephews; and her in-laws: brother-in-law, Frank Alvaro and his wife Lauranne, and sisters-in-law, Joyce Police of Fairmont, Nancy Police of Cleveland, Ohio, and Nellie Giorcelli, Marilyn and Betty Alvaro, all of Fairmont. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Anthony D. "Tony" Alvaro, on April 6, 2012; her loving son, Anthony John Alvaro; three brothers, Johnny, Bill and Louie Police; two sisters, Sara and Christine Police; and in-laws, Evelyn and Jess Bowers, Teresa and Joe Bruno, Mary and Ray Gerba, Eugene Giorcelli, Larry Alvaro and Dominick "Mickey" Alvaro. Rose's family has suggested that memorial contributions in her name be made to: East Park Boys & Girls Club, Fairfax Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends may call at Frey Home For Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. today, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Wednesday. A rosary service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Father Steve Joseph as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
