Bury S. E. Easterday In Butler Cemetery
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson funeral home in Butler for Samuel Elias Easterday, 83, of Butler.
Officiating was the Rev. John Hunt, pastor of the Butler Methodist church, and burial followed in the Butler cemetery.
Mr. Easterday died at 5:25 p.m. Thursday at the Sheehy nursing home at Butler where he had been a patient for a few weeks. He had been failing for several months. Mr. Easterday succumbed to a blood clot and pneumonia.
He was born in DeKalb county Dec. 7, 1873, the son of the late Samuel and Rhoda Monroe Easterday. He and Jennie Ballard were married at Danville, Ill., Jan. 20, 1908. The couple moved to Butler about two years ago.
Mr. Easterday was a retired railroad engineer for the New York Central and Elgin, Joliet & Erie railroads.
Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Samuel Easterday Jr., of 505 East Quincy street, Garrett, and Dr. Charles Easterday of Boston, Mass.; two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Sherritt Tustison of the Clevenger Apts. on on East King street, Garrett, and Mrs. Geraldine Cummings of Muncie; a brother, William Easterday of Butler; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Nape of Columbia City and Mrs. Attie Luke of St. Johns, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Easterday was a member of the Butler Methodist church and the Division 520, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers at Gary.
