Sallie was the daughter of Joseph A. and Malvina McCord (Joe and Molly) of Pontotoc, MS area.

Her siblings were, per 1900 Census;
Andrew Thomas (Tom) born Oct 1880, MS
Cornelia Melvinia (Pearl) born Nov 1884, MS; m. John Henry Rush
Margerett (Maggie) born Apr 1888, MS; m. Luther Rush
John (Johnnie) born May 1890, MS

Sallie McCord married John Teague McCoy and had four children, three of which lived. The first baby passed. In November 2022, a New Testament Bible that contained dates was discovered. In the Bible was the first baby and John Teague McCoy's mother and father. My mother confirmed this is Sallie's handwriting in the Bible.

The three children are:
Sarah "Ethel" McCoy Presley b. 16 JUN 1912
John Teague "JT" McCoy, Jr. b. 1914
"Mildred" Delores McCoy Powell b. 17 MAR 1917

Sallie was John's second wife, and they married on 10 March 1910. John's first wife, Jennie Frances Pitts McCoy died in August 1909. In November 2022, it was discovered that John was Sallie's second husband. Sallie's first husband was Charles. I'll have to review the photos again for his last name but wanted to add a comment quickly before time went by. Charles/Charlie and Sally had no children together.

Sallie lived with John and her children at their homestead in Cherry Creek, Pontotoc Co., MS. She was a homemaker and cared for John during his long-term illness.

Sallie is my great-grandmother; her daughter, Ethel, is my grandmother. Sally stood 6'3" and was slender built, hair upkept with a high collared dress, the perfect Victorian woman.

Sallie was living in Hughes, AR with Eack and Ethel Presley in 1971 when she became ill. Sallie was moved January 1972 to a mobile home a block away, after her granddaughter with two children remarried 4 DEC 1971 and wanted Sallie's bedroom in the house with Eack and Ethel. The granddaughter already lived in the house with Eack and Ethel, but in the back bedroom with her two children. With a new husband, the granddaughter needed the private bedroom, rather than the new husband move into a new place with the new wife and children. The granddaughter had no intention of raising the two kids independently of her mother, Ethel, and doing the cooking, cleaning, work and raise children. The granddaughter was done raising kids with the addition of a new husband. This move isolated Sallie as it also isolated her daughter, Ethel. During the day while everyone was at work or school, Ethel would drive the block away to see her mother, bathe her, dress her, cook, feed her and keep a "second" house. This move also isolated Sallie from the family in the family home. There was no more laughter, dinners, and visits to her room without driving to the isolated mobile home.

Sallie passed away at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis, Arkansas, 17 Sep 1972, 3:15 am, at the age of 87, less than a year after she was moved and isolated. I want this part of the end of her life kept in this memorial. The death certificate states Cerebrovascular accident (stroke) and atherosclerosis. Sallie entered the hospital 11 SEP 1972 and passed after a six day stay at the hospital. Her son, John "J.T." McCoy, Jr. completed the information for the death certificate. Initially, the person that typed the document put the name McCord as John "J.T." McCoy's last name as the line was just below father, which was Joseph McCord. I personally noticed the error and made contact with State of Arkansas, Department of Health, Division of Vital Records, to have the record corrected. An Affidavit for Correction of a Record was filed 7 MAR 2000, recorded Volume 65, Page 16004, Year 72 as "Funeral Home Error". I received the amended Death Certificate dated 18 APR 2000.

It was cruel to treat such a special woman in the manner in which she was treated, especially by her own granddaughter, who manipulated Ethel into this arrangement. Ethel and I talked about this years later and she was truly hurt by these actions. Truth be told, this is murder; "Isolate and Die", as it is a basic life need to be loved and have family.

Sallie was taken back to Mississippi for her funeral and was buried at Priceville Cemetery.

I have fond memories of my great grandmother, as I was ten years old when she passed. She would sit me in her lap and read the "funny papers" to me as a child and we would watch her "stories" together. Funny papers are the comic strips in the newspapers and stories are soap operas.

The name Sally is on her gravestone; however, it is believed she spelled her name "Sallie". See the gravestone for the "Infant Son, 1910".

The original of the family portrait and the other photos that I have posted on this site belongs to me personally and are my copyright.
